Hi, my name is Oleksandr Hryhorenko. I have completed my Ph.D. (accelerator physics) in December of 2019
the University of Paris Sud under the supervision of Dr. Marin Chabot.
The aim of my Ph.D. was to study an alternative path to reduce the cost of construction of
future accelerators like FCC (Future Circular Collider) and ILC (International Linear Collider).
In particular, my area of research was related to material science and mechanical polishing of
superconducting accelerating cavities (one of the main components of the accelerator).
I investigated the metallographic and centrifugal barrel polishing of the bulk Niobium,
which is widely used to build the accelerators.
In this thesis, the work consisted mainly in assessing the chemical cleanliness, crystallographic quality
of the polished surface, nanoroughness, abrasion rate, while simplifying the usual centrifugal barrel
polishing and metallographic techniques so that process is compatible with industrialization and could be
used for large scale production. Hence, know-how to handle and optimize the various polishing steps
(grinding, lapping, polishing) to the needs of society in terms of cost reduction, desirable quality, and the number of steps.
The surfaces were characterized with the several techniques or devices: in particular laser confocal
microscope (mainly roughness measurement), SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer), GIXRD
(Grazing Incidence X-Ray Diffractometer), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and EBSD
(Electron-BackScattered Diffraction).
In order to simplify data characterization (de-pollution studies, roughness evolution and recognition
of SIMS peaks), scripts have been written in Python language. Hands-on experience in the data extraction and data wrangling using Python data science tools
(Pandas, Numpy, Jupyter Notebooks, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn, Plotly).
I'm a highly motivated, hard-working researcher, and my educational background and working experience gave me a range of skills
(theoretical and practical) that can be used for the data analysis in the academy.
However, this experience could be transmitted to the industry as I am really motivated and passionate about learning new things.
